Month, and students across the region are encouraged to leave the
car at home and make use of two-wheeled transit to get to school.
Thursday, May 10, 11am-1pm: Capitol BikeFest (west steps of the
Capitol)
All things bicycle will be the subject of the Capitol BikeFest,
where local government organizations, bicycle advocacy groups and
bicycle shops will have tables with information on their
services, including promotion of walking, bicycling and other
clean-air transportation. Free bike valet parking available.
Friday, May 11: National Bike to Work Day
Take part in the nationwide movement to view bicycling as a
primary mode of transportation and ride your bicycle to work.
Saturday, May 12, 10am: Free Second Saturday Coffee Bike Tour
(Broadacre Coffee, 1014 10th St.).
Broadacre Coffee’s free Second Saturday Bike Tour events combine
two things Sacramentans love: coffee and bicycles. Show up, have
a cup, then ride to a series of coffee bars in the central city,
sampling what each has to offer.
Wednesday, May 16, 5-6pm: Mike’s Bikes free maintenance class
(Mike’s Bikes, 1411 I St.)
According to Mike’s Bikes, you can fix your own bicycle, and the
staff will show you how, for free. From tuning your brakes to
adjusting your bicycle to fit you to oiling the chain, you can
keep your bicycle in top shape by visiting one of the business’
six shops.
Thursday, May 17 – Sunday, May 20: NorCal AIDS Cycle
For four days, cyclists will cover 330 miles to raise money and
awareness for HIV/AIDS service providers in the area. Riders can
join the ride themselves, serve as crew members or donate to the
efforts by visiting the NorCal AIDS Cycle website.
Saturday, May 19, 9am-1pm: Capitol Park Neighborhood Bike Ride
(North Natomas Transportation Management Association, 1960 Del
Paso Road)
The 2012 Neighborhood Bike Ride season kicks off with a ride
through north and south Natomas and onward toward downtown.
Riders will cross three bridges, get a view of Capitol Park and
stop at the New Roma Bakery before heading back to Natomas on the
Ueda Bike Trail. Riders should arrive at 8:30 a.m. For more
information, visit the Neighborhood Bike Ride website.
