Local multimedia specialist Diego Re will be exhibiting his collection of Native American photography at Spanglish Arte. Re’s collection for this show focuses on the cultural outfits of Native Americans as worn during dance challenges in the 2011 National Championship Pow-Wow at Traders Village in Grand Prairie, Texas. Hundreds of Native Americans gather from all across the country to compete in this event in which traditional clothes based on early designs from the 1800’s are worn. The elaborate outfits captured by Re includes embellishments of porcupine roaches and beaded rosettes.

According to Spanglish Arte, “the designs have evolved over the years and have crossed the cultural boundaries between tribes making it impossible to distinguish which tribe the contestants represent.” With Re’s fine attention to detail and manner of captivating the beauty and the spirit of the culture, the exhibit will be a priority must see for anyone interested in Native American culture and design.
